Ticket machines - Frankston line

Ticket machines and gates (the blue ones) have been
installed at stations on the Frankston line between
Glenhuntly and Highett (and possibly further south).
Signs up say that they'll come into use soon. Machines
are also going in at Caulfield - it looks like these will
include bigger gates of some kind.

Interestingly, the ones at Glenhuntly are *inside* the
station building, which is closed when not manned. I've
noticed it's like this at Hawthorn too. Anybody know
how this works, why they do it like this etc? Is the
plan to convert these stations to Premium stations
eventually? Or do they open up the station building
even when it's manned? What is the point of
having ticket machines that you can't use when
the station's not manned?
