Ian Dobbs spoke at ARE about 2 1/2 years ago. He said then the Hitachi
sets had about 5 years of life left in them and replacements would be
required. He said then articulated sets would be better than double deck
as you can increase capacity without all the infrastructure changes.

The idea of 3 cars on 4 bogies without much cab/van space seems logical.
It would also ease the wear on the track.
