Hi.
I have nor ridden the train lately. (I was up there last in 1985.)
The best side of the train is definitely the right hand side. When going up
the hill, the valley is on the right side. However, the cars in use at that
time had one wide seat on the left and an aisle on the right. I spent most of
time looking out the windows anyway.
If I get up there again, I will definitely ride one way on the skyway.
As far as Up/Down is concerned, unless it has changed, Down is TO Brisbane,
and Up is away from Brisbane.
