I seem to have missed the start of this thread, so this may be a little
disjointed, but here goes.

Re 2/ the Southern leg of Picton - are you sure this was ever actually a
triangle? I know it looks like it is, but that southern leg formation is
actually the orginal signle track main line formation. The new (1910?)
double track main line actually cuts the old formation as it swings around
the hill, and the current loop line junction leaves the new main just
before this, to join the orginal formation west of the new line. Confused?
To summarise, the east leg is the current mainline, the north leg is the
current loop line to main line connection and the southern leg is the
orginal main line formation.

So my question is was there ever track and points on the southern leg since
the new main went in? Was it ever actually a real triangle? and if it was,
what was it used for?
