TAKING OF STATEMENTS

Recently a case arose where a driver who was involved in a
fatality was contacted by a relative of the deceased.
This unexpected contact caused the driver renewed anxiety
in relation to this most unfortunate incident. The relative
was able to contact the driver because his home address had
been shown on the statement taken by CityRail.
Commencing immediately, statements which are being prepared
for coronial inquests should not obtain the employees home
address. It will be sufficient to show their departmental
address, e.g. Penrith Depot, Hornsby Depot etc. It is to
be remembered that under privacy provisions, the home address
or phone numbers of employees should not be given out without
their authority.
