SG mainline runs from Spencer Street through Dynon yards with NRC MFT yard
north of the main and NRC MOT/MST (Melbourne Operations Terminal/ Melbourne
Steel Terminal) south of the main. Patricks Terminal is on the docks and
joins the south east corner of the MOT. At South Dynon Junction (often
called Sims Street Junction) the SG line from North Dynon joins this
carries V/Line freight, TNT and SCT trains. The BG Goods lines also join
and the line is Double, Dual through the Bunbury St tunnel. On the south
side of Bunbury St. Footscray at the eastern end is a park that runs down
to the river giving an almost reasonable view of the mainlines crossing on
the bridge and the Maribyrnong River line (BG) passing underneath. Exiting
the tunnel the line passes Middle Footscray before reaching West Footscray
Junction near the Whitten Oval. At WFJ the BG peels off to the left on
double track and the SG CTC single line begins. On the north side of
Tottenham yard (BG) the SG Tottenham Loop is located, about 1.5 km from
WFJ. Ashley St underpass is near here. Immediately after the loop is the
junction for the west.

The North East line to Albury continues on passing Sunshine station
(O'brian Park in Mathew's St has a reasonable view) and parallelling the BG
goods line (and at a small distance the Western Ring Road M80) from Albion
to Broadmeadows passing over the large steel trestles at Maribyrnong River
and Moonie Ponds Creek (Kingsford-Smith Ulm Reserve off Loongana Ave,
Glenroy is OK for northbounds especially AM ). At Jacana, near Broadmeadows
the SG flies over the BG Suburban lines (good view from the footbridge of
southbounds). North of Bmdws Barrys Road overpass has some possibilities.

The West line curves from Tottenham to Brooklyn on single line dual gauge
flying over the BG St.Albans/Bendigo/Ballarat line. At Brooklyn it joins
the BG line from Sunshine and runs to Newport as two parallel single lines.
the west line is BG and the east line is dual gauge. Somerville Rd LC is
good for trackwork and industrial background type shots. Other level
crossings are at Francis St and Kernot St. Near the corner of Hick and
Birmingham Streets in Spotswood is a foot crossing to the corner of
Stephenson and Moresby Streets which is near the entrance to Goninans
siding. Market St, Newport is ok for shots as trains pass behind Newport
Box and enter the SG mainline proper. After there all the regular Geelong
line spots through Werribee to Manor Loop (Bulban Road).
