Carl Scully conceded yesterday he dumped the $247 million Bondi Beach
rail link partly because of pressure from a group of locals led by
celebrities. The decision has generated widespread anger that a group --
including actor Michael Caton, singer Kate Ceberano and businessman
James Packer -- had succeeded with a campaign to block better public
transport to the beach.
Tourism Task Force chief Chris Brown said the protest movement was "the
most disgusting cases of self-interest I've ever seen. It's nimbyism at
its worst."

[This is quite a change of tune for the Terrorgraph, conceding that rail
is "better public transport".]
