NT Truckies give rail consortium a serve.

A letter to the Editor of the Centralian Advocate has
made a few points that a lot of Territorians are bound
to agree with, particularly with this election year.

Alice Springs people already know there will be NOTHING
for them in the Alice to Darwin Railway.
Tennant Creek and Katherine folks can look forward to a
short boost, but after construction, zilch, zero,
nothing. The croweaters are also short term
beneficiaries even though they will benefit most.

Peter Goud who was the "letter to the editor" and is
the vice president of the North Australian Trucking
Association has made no bones about the fact that the
Alice to Darwin Railway will be funded by MILLIONS of
australian tax payers dollars, after a long, very long
procedure of financing this "private" railway which
just happens to contain millions of taxpayer bucks.

He made the point that truckies in the NT welcome
competition, as long as it as fair.
But already they, (rail consortium and NT government)
are talking about regulating the road train industry in
the NT so that the "truckies" up this way do not
compete "unfairly" with the railway.
