Report recommends extending fast train plan
Victoria's Transport Minister has launched an independent report which
recommends extending the Government's Fast Train plan.
The Environment Victoria report has identified savings of $200-million which
can be made on current plans for Fast Train centres at four regional
centres.
The report has recommended the savings be used to bring in extra Fast Train
and bus services.
However, the report argues the Government's five year regional transport
plan should be extended to eight years at a cost of an extra $300-million.

The Transport Minister, Peter Batchelor, welcomed the report and will ask
his Department to analyse its findings.
"For Victoria's transport system to be sustainable and viable, there must be
a continual exchange of ideas between the Government, the stakeholders and
the broader community about how we develop and manage and improve transport
services," he said
