Noted this evening on ABC Territory TV News with
footage the construction of the sleeper plant at
Katherine is well under way.  Some 8 million dollars
will be spent and the plant will produce 1800 sleepers
per day later this year.

The segment also stated that track laying will commence
in April *next year*.

Meanwhile some 660 Kms south at Tennant Creek the ABC
showed road construction to the proposed sleeper plant
and a "de-mountable village" to house workers.

Unlike Katherine where government ministers and a whole
gaggle of consortium heavies were on hand, the ABC
crews were unable to speak to anyone working on the
Tennant Creek end because there will be a ministerial
visit tomorrow and all persons were told not to speak
to the media.
