[QLD] Park Road last Sunday

Major point and track work was underway at Park Road on Sunday in
conjunction with the building of the new platforms.

I caught a train inbound from Moorooka (Beenleigh line) just before
midday. Instead of the usual all stations, it ran express Yeerongpilly
to Park Road with a connecting bus at Y'pilly for Yeronga, Fairfield and
Dutton Park. It used the dual gauge line (with no platforms at these
stations) to Park Road. At Park Road the train used the new
western-most platform which had concrete platform facing, but only earth
cover on the platform. Had to wait 4 mins for time to catch up, then
stopped at the new Vulture St platform which also had not yet had a
bitumen surfacing. Guess outbound trains also used the dual gauge line.

Gold Coast trains in both directions were diverted via Sherwood. This
meant bypassing South Brisbane, a major destination for G/C passengers,
particularly on weekends. On my return, this time a trip from Brunswick
St to Helensvale, the train, one of the HS SMS MkII sets (6 cars),
managed to reach Beenleigh on time despite running the extra distance
via Sherwood. Just shows how much slack there is in the timetable.
