Re-connecting the turntable and No3 platform has many benefits for the
VGR. It will help to raise the profile of the VGR within the local
Castlemaine community. They are more likely to support the railway if
they can see that the VGR is giving some attention to their end of the
line instead of concentrating all their efforts at the Maldon end. It
will also assist with goodwill between the VGR and other
societies/companies like Steamrail, the ARHS and WCR. Instead of having
to operate to Bendigo, locos can now be turned at Castlemaine. Last but
not least, it means that the VGR will have an operating terminus at
Castlemaine that will be ready to use when they restore the line from
Muckleford to Maldon Junction.
