You may like to consider taking the XPT down to Melbourne in Victoria.
There is a daylight XPT and an overnight XPT. A one way trip takes
either an entire day or an entire night. Once you are in Victoria, there
are a number of country trips that can be made either by V/Line
Passenger or West Coast Railway.
