Help re 1st IP.

A friends wife and children travelled on the very first IP to Sydney from
Adelaide.  They caught the train from Adelaide to Peterborough to join
it, and then to Sydney.

Their son, who was about seven at the time, thinks they had to transfer to
a bus just out of Sydney but can't remember why - possibly a derailment
on the suburban line.

Any one help us on this one please
