[NSW] CityRail's Ghost Train

>From Column 8 in today's Sydney Morning Herald

The Ghost Train. Central station, platform 8. A crowd is waiting for the
carriages of the 5.30pm Mt Victoria train to arrive. Two announcements are
made, described by Peter McMahon, of Penrith South: "The first, about
5.25pm, advised us that the train now standing at platform 8 was the 5.30 Mt
Victoria train. 'Passengers should board the train, as it will shortly
depart.' At 5.29pm, CityRail advised us again that 'This train is now due to
depart. All aboard, please.' About 5.33pm the real train arrived and,
without the help of announcements, passengers managed to board."

My comment:
What would be the ramifications for CityRail if an intending passenger,
blind, or blotto, heeded the announcement and marched straight over the
platform edge? Sue the pants off them? Perhaps in defence CityRail could
plead insanity and that passengers should be used to this level of
incompetence.
