At 22.15 there was a lightening flash just outside North Sydney, towards Milsons
Point. All sticks went back to stop between Milsons point and Lilyfield.

North Sydney Station staff clipped and locked points, tried to contact signaller
with no success, but told Driver he was right to trip past the first 2
controlled signals and proceed to the first automatic.

The 22.15 to Penrith departed at 23.00.

After midnight police came over the bridge with sirens wailing to deliver the
signal electricians to North Sydney.

The 22.22 to Penrith departed at 00.50.
