I suspect the electrification to R'ton was more an exercise in politics
rather that economic rationalism. 

You have a million voters in SE Qld travelling by good electric train,
so if you said you were going to electrify the Toowoomba line, not one
of them would blink an eyelid, and reckon it would be a good idea.

However, if the price of diesel fuel keeps rising, guess a cut over
point will be reached.
