[QLD] New Citytrain TT: More Trains

Citytrain timetables were available from Monday 18th and commence Monday
25th September.  Instead of the previous views of Mayne Car Shed, the
new booklets each have a tourism-themed photo like the old Gold and
Sunshine Coast book.  Much more information is included, including a new
less-cluttered map and details of the 5 different trains which run
Citytrain services.  The map includes a yellow line from Eagle Junction
to Airport International and Airport Domestic with asterisks that show
that “Airport service to commence early 2001”.  The fleet details are
comprehensive and show that the SMU MkII 220 Series trains have a
maximum speed of 100km/h, but that a 120km/hr option is being
investigated.  Unfortunately, although all train working numbers are
given in the public timetables, there is no clue as to what the prefixes
mean.  This would have been a useful addition to the fleet information
pages.  Even for non-enthusiasts, those in the know can tell whether a
train is provided with toilet facilities or not, but rather than provide
an explanation, the new timetables have a WC over those services so
fitted.  (Prefixes in the Citytrain timetables are: J - 3 car suburban;
1 - 6 car suburban; X - Intercity; U - 3 car Gold Coast style IMU
(U-Boats ride again?!); T - 6 car IMU).

Interestingly, the Yeerongpilly - Corinda shuttles are all still there
(with X prefixes instead of the former 5 - Railcar).  Probably due to
the fact that the terminating third platforms at Zillmere and Strathpine
are now part of the new third road, there are no longer terminating
services at these locations.  All these trains have been extended to or
from Petrie.  The train from Murarrie now also starts from Manly.
Despite this, these three stations are still included in the list of
destination abbreviations (along with Helensvale and Nerang which also
no longer have terminating trains since the Gold Coast line was
extended).  The Caboolture and Sunshine Coast line timetables now show
stations through to Toowong on the Ipswich line, Ferny Grove shows
through to Park Road (previously Vulture St), and Shorncliffe to Park
Road, although most trains Mon - Fri go to Corinda via Milton.  The
Sunshine Coast timetable shows many Mon - Fri buses between Nambour and
Caboolture.

Although most trains are unchanged, some are altered by a couple of
minutes and there are lots of new trains and extensions.  Doomben and
Yeerongpilly/Corinda trains are still only hourly, but in general the
new timetables are a positive improvement.

Eagle Jct now runs all stations.  The following 1A53 (was from Corinda;
now Darra) leaving Roma St at 17:16 was all stations and now takes up a
similar express running as the previous train.

TL09 17:09 Roma Street - Nambour exp. Bowen Hills ? Elimbah stopping
Eagle Jct, Northgate and Petrie now runs as a 3 car UL09.  The other
three IMU cars for the following morning 6 car T train from Nambour -
Robina now goes from Roma St to Nambour at 21:23 as UL15 (exp. Bowen
Hills - Caboolture stopping Eagle Jct, Northgate and Petrie) instead of
the previous JL13 3 car suburban.
