An article in Geelong Advertiser of Friday 20 October 2000, alleges that the
Melbourne bound Overland derailed last night in North Geelong at about
9:10pm. No injuries were sustained and passengers stayed on the train.
Apparently, a carriage near the rear of the train derailed, although the
carriage remained upright.
The incident blocked the Separation Street Crossing for about six hours.
This has nothing to do with the Corio Overpass bridge collapse.
