Crossings under dual TransAdelaide/ARTC control

I contacted TransAdelaide on 131 761 (now works from mobiles too (-:) about
the situation I'd previously reported in aus.rail and cc:'d to TA and ARTC,
and spoke to Luciano. He mentioned that TransAdelaide's train control do
monitor the state of all crossings on their network, and that any situations
like a crossing being active (lights flashing/boom gates down) too long are
reported to their own drivers and to ARTC train control if the crossing
includes ARTC tracks. In the case previously reported by me, there had been
a fatality (presumably a pedestrian hit by a train) near Blackwood.

What remains unclear is why the Transit Police expressed a "don't care"
attitude to cars passing around boom gates, without giving any indication
that any trains in the vicinity had been warned of the situation.

Regards,

Arthur.
