Air France throws in the towel

This should be a shot in the arm for Speedrail. The distance is roughly
comparable to Sydney - Canberra, although air traffic was much higher in
France.

According to the French weekly "La Vie du Rail", 4 October 2000,
page 51, Air France had decided to discontinue flights between
Paris and Brussels with effect from next summer. Instead, Air
France will reserve accommodation for passengers holding Air
France tickets, on the Thalys TGVs which take less than 90
minutes for the run between the Aeroport CDG TGV station at
Paris CDG airport and Brussels Midi station. Last year, Air France
carried some 158 thousand passengers on this route.
