The Japanese system is even better: a stopping-all-stations is overtaken by
a pure express half way, with cross-platform interchange.
This minimises travel time for the majority, while requiring only a pair of
tracks.
The Victorian system fails to achieve this: each improvement implemented by
the new operators reflects a philosophy from 40 years ago, and actually
makes services worse in the inner area.
