This talk of Camberwell expresses got me looking at the new Frankston
timetable.
Although Frankston off-peak and weekend trains all run express South Yarra
to Malvern during daytime, for passengers between Glenhuntly and Highett,
there is now not a single express leaving the city in peak hour between
16:28 and 18:11. All the trains between these two stop at every station.
Morning peak is slightly better, with at least a few expresses, though the
frequencies after 8am jump to about every 15 minutes. And Bentleigh appears
to get an 8:06 express to Caulfield then to South Yarra.
So even accounting for waiting time, a peak hour trip is likely to be slower
than an off-peak trip.
