Yarra Trams lodged a few months ago a draft plan with Whitehorse Council
(viewable by the public if you ask for it at the Nunawading Service Centre)
which showed their preferences, VicRoads preferences where different, and
some possible variations. Taking the tram into the Market Street Mall to
terminate closer to Box Hill Station is shown as a dotted line possibility,
but Yarra Trams have told me their tender was not costed based on that
alternative, and they would seek money from any / all of the State, Council
or the shopping centre owner to cover the additional cost. Their proposed
terminus is a 2 platform affair on the north side of the current median
strip just east of the Market Street Mall. A number of the issues that were
up for discussion between YT, VicRoads, DOI and Council such as road width
required and consequential land acquisition, and use of centre or side poles
have since been agreed upon, so the plan at Whitehorse Council is not the
latest version.

A representative from each of Yarra Trams and DOI will give an update and
hear opinions at a forum run by the local Whitehorse Councillors next
