Re: More electrification

They have had in mind for some time. QR has a long term plan sitting on the
shelves, but it needs some money making freight haulage from beyond the
range. If this business surfaces, then they intend to tunnel through the
range, and branch back at the other end into Toowoomba. Another option
though is to link the system west of Toowoomba to the Moura system. QR have
also studied this.

As QR passenger services are now effectively at cost, there is no incentive
any more for QR to do any capital improvements for passenger services alone.
The government now is to provide the will and the funding.

Any extension to the electrification beyond Rosewood requires at least one
additional substation. The supply for Rosewood presently comes from
Corinda, and is extremely weak. From Wulkuraka west the wiring is set up to
readily convert to the 25-0-25kv system as used on the Gold Coast and
everywhere north of Caboolture.
