Chester Hill apparently also has these "long line announcements".

has anyone heard them before?

          I think it is an automated announcement system controlled from another location. Some Blue
Mountain
          stations were equipped with them a while ago, but not sure how it works in Sydney.
          
          In Melbourne, their stations have a point where you press a button and the automated
recording tells you
          next train info.
