Rally boosts support for east Gippsland train services

The Bairnsdale Save our Train Committee is far more confident of returning
passenger train services to East Gippsland after their public rally on
Saturday.

A large crowd gathered at the Bairnsdale Band rotunda in a show of strength
to take to the state government.

The Premier and Transport Minister say they will consider returning the
service if enough people support the call.

The Member for Gippsland East, Craig Ingram, says he now has the ammunition
to take to the government.

"It's magnificent here today...it really proves how much support there is
for the return of the passenger rail to Bairnsdale to East Gippsland," he
said.

"[There is] well over 1,000 people here, I think that's fairly obvious to
everyone that was here.

"We've received over 5,000 [signatures] already, and I think we'll get up
near the 10,000 signatures [mark]."
