The allocation of fare to operator can be done from statistics on passenger flows.  It
shouldn't be up to the passenger to undertake management's accounting function.  The
concept of allocation is spurious, as Flinders St barriers don't know which operator a
ticketholder is using.  The whole of Melbourne's system is unnecessarily customer
unfriendly, designed to maximise management convenience, and justified with spurious
excuses.
