Maximum speeds are listed in Book 3 of the working timetable and also signposted
next to the line.

It is possible that the carriage you were in had defective suspension, making
the ride rough and seem faster than you were going.

It was probably not too bad in the guard's car.  In a tangara, the guard can see
a speedo anyway.
