Age is basically irrelevant.  What is relevant - the soundness of the design,
and the life since last major overhaul (ie, since "new", or "good as new").
Hence Victoria's B, S, X, T class loco's continue to give reliable service for
their new owners.  There are plenty of examples of "new" railway equipment
being fundamentally less reliable than "old" equipment....relevant to this
thread (given the subject is Silver DRC) is the DRC's Vs. DERMS, which had in
turn comfortably outlasted the much younger Walkers.  Not because they were
newer, but because they were of sound design.
