Impulse Airlines

Tonight on the news was the announcement by Impulse Airlines of their
fares - AUD139 from SYD to MEL, every seat on every flight on every day.

Given that the full economy (the only fare you can normally get at peak
periods) is AUD104.00 (without concessions) I wonder if this will have an
impact on the SYD-MEL full fare patronage, thus further diluting
Countrylinks revenues.

It is bound to have an effect on the sleeper passenger numbers, since why
would you get a sleeper when there is a walkup fare which is cheaper.
Granted, there have been cheaper airfares available for a long time, but
they have had advance purchase restrictions that make them unavailable for a
lot of passengers. The availability of a turn up and go fare of AUD139.00 is
certain to attract some of the sleeper passengers across.

Once Impulse expand to Brisbane (supposedly prior to the Olympics) with the
same fare structure, you would have to start wondering about the viability
of the sleeping cars.
