NR Freight on Main West last night

Two lengthy SP frieghts were seen on the main west last night (sat). The
first one with three NRs and an impressive length of freight passing through
Orange at 1945 and the second one around 2100 and two NRs. I preume that
they would have combined at Parkes and then onto Perth. Why did this freight
use the main west last night, when it would normally go via Coota?
