Hi,
as far as I know, all V set cars have east-west lighting in the "Melbourne
Zone" (i.e. single deck section). Up/downstairs have the north south
lighting in the newer cars, and east-west lighting in the blue goose cars.
I *might* be wrong on the "Melbourne Zone" though. As a matter of
perspective (okay, it's a topic hijack) the Hitachi's have north-south
lighting, and the Comengs, which came later, have east-west lighting.
Harris cars also started out with north-south lighting, and when converted
to grey ghost sets & interurban H cars, they got the same east-west
lighting as the Comengs. Internally, the 4D is cosmetically identical to
the Tangara (okay okay, except for the 2x2 seating downstairs).
Regards
Michael
