I thought that the indefatigable James was videocapturing the ferry in the
morning: somewhere off Lara the captain stated that there was a boy [buoy?]
in the water, and did a complete 360 degree turn around it. This was a
floating ring, apparently thrown from 'Victoria Star' / 'Lady McKell' as
part of a safety drill.

The trip was enjoyed greatly by all, including many who haven't been on a
Steamrail trip before. The owner/operator of 'Victoria Star' is a marine
enthusiast, and was happy to show off the features of the ferry to all
passengers.
