I believe the main thing that stops trains going through these days, is the
condition of the trestle on the up side of Yarra Glen. Other than that,
from what I have seen for myself, there are farm fences, livestock (easily
moved) and trees that have grown on/close to the track.
For a while trains were able to run to Coldstream (i.e. the line was open
for use), but I think even that's finished now. Goods trains used to run
to/from Coldstream after the line was closed. I remember going on a
Steamrail tour back in about 1989 or so, which went to Coldstream, where
everyone transferred to buses. For the record, the loco was a K.
IIRC, at present, YVTR[1] own/lease/borrow the line from Yarra Glen to
Healesville, but only run trolleys from Healesville to the tunnel a few KM
out of Healesville. I think the main problem is funding to restore the line
and possibly rollingstock.
Regards
Michael.
