First series X: X31-X36. Cosmetically the same as the second series X. EMD
567C (V16) type engine. Controls set up for long end leading. Model number
G16C.
Second series X: X37-X44. Cosmetically the same as the first series X. EMD
645E (V16) type engine. Controls set up for long end leading. Model number
G26C.
Third series X: X45-X54. Major differences in cab design to the first two
series. EMD 645E (V16) type engine. Controls set up for short end leading.
Model number G26C.
Model number: G = standard EMD "G" type locomotive (hood unit), 16 = V16 /
567C engine, add 10 to the figure for 645E engine. C = Co-Co bogie
configuration.
e.g. a G6B would be an EMD cab unit, with V6 engine, Bo-Bo bogies, i.e. a Y
class.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Michael.
