The thing that strikes me is if you do the math the Indian Pacific costs
(first class) .31c/km (4,500 odd km's)  whereas the Ghan costs over double
that at .70c/km (1555km's) with the Overland coming in at .24c/km (800 and
something km's).

I wonder where the disparity in pricing came from ? Is it more expensive to
run to Alice Springs than Perth ?

And of course why is more expensiove to take your car to Alice Springs than
to bring it back when it's going to be carried on thesame train anyway ?
