Re: [NSW] Train codes

N stands for Endeavour

They couldn't use E becuase E is used to describe electric locos.

Basically for passenger trains

First character = direction

N = North
S = South
W = West
K and C - used for South Coast local and longer services respectively.

Second Character = type of train

number = CityRail Intercity EMU 's
1 = Newcastle service
2 = Gosford/Wyong service
3/4 = South Coast
5 = West
7/8/9 Empty Intercity EMU's

T = XPT
P = Xplorer
S = Steam
L = Diesel loco
N = Endeavour (Southern Highlands)
R = Endeavour (South Coast)
E = electric loco
D = Light engine (??)

btw, suburban trains and Newcastle railcars/Endeavours use run numbers.
