Nihonga.. I started a thread of this a while back, not having a clue what
they were.

These knobs (or discs as you have put it) all have 4 screws in them but some
of them are metal [eg @ Hurstville] while most are wood.

I think I called my thread something around "knobs on platforms" or
something similar...
