[NSW] 21/7/2000 Hornsby observations

* 7.30am at Burwood--trains were arriving at a frequency of more than 2 min
on the down suburban platform, all running around half an hour late. The
some Epping trains had to turn around at Rhodes to "maintain on-time
running". (HA!)

* fast suburban trains from Hornsby were not running until 8am, and Epping
customers had to all cross to platform 2 for the all stops to Burwood.

* Beecroft at 8.00am, a 4-car Tangara pulled in, already at a crush load,
trying to cop another hundred or so passengers into it. Some passengers
decided to become "pushers" (like in the Japanese railways!) and pushed
others in before they went in themselves. It would have been impossible to
take another load at Cheltenham (around 60 passengers waiting when my train
left 3 min before that)

* Intercity trains and some other very late running express to City trains
ran again after 8am

* 11.30am, a 48 class at Normanhurst with around 10 "cars" (what's the
proper word???) of rails (cars had "Rail Services Australia) on them),
waited for signal to clear.

* 2.15pm, platform 3 and platform 2 used for only trains to turn around.
2.22pm up main north express to City ran around 10 late. 2.37pm from Central
Coast used down relief to go to platform 4, 2.42pm up main north used
platform 1. Inspections of the broken point was being carried out until
3.00pm. However the point for down shore crossing over to down main north
was still closed.
