Usenet is a more practical medium for discussion than mailing lists, since
with mailing lists you get everything whether you want to read it or not,
whereas with usenet you can choose not to download certain
posts/threads/etc. There are other reasons why usenet is more practical,
particularly where the discussion is a long one (keeping track of replies
and locations in the thread, etc.).
