Quite a bit of work is needed before that can happen - at least if a
passenger train is going to run at more than old VR branchline speeds. But
to start with, a siding to load the logs will be needed. The logs are
presently being loaded on the mainline a few kilometres west of Bairnsdale
station. This is why the train arrives at Bairnsdale with locos at either
end. Track east of Bosworth road is rather overgrown and there is also the
reopened level crossing over the yard near the station - it has no signs,
signals or anything else. Still, this would seem to be all relatively
trivial work. Many doubted that trains would ever return to Bairnsdale at
all. Log trains are a start of course. Hopefully not too long before
passenger trains return as well.

Now, if an X class can run over the Avon River bridge - why can't VFHX
(former "prarie" wagons) not be run over it? Or has this changed too?
