One point to note is that the letters have changed from time to time.
Some that I recall include:
T sets being two car double decker (1 motor and 1 driving trailer) like the
current L sets;
The first (and possibly other) K sets started out as R sets;
The original V sets were U sets just like the single deckers. In 1977, the
new carriages with vacuum toilets fitted, became V sets.
