If the Avon river bridge has been "upgraded" it must be on paper only. I see
this bridge twice a day and have not seen any works being carried out. In
all probablilty it has been able to take X class and other locos all along.
The change from RTL to T class seemed to just happen. No major works had
been carried out. I am told the spans of the trestle had been tested to
around 300t per span. Only a few failed and were repaired. The bridge is
apparently in better condition than it looks.
