Hi there

Blockworking as previously stated is a method of keeping trains a safe
distance apart. There are many variations on this:

Absolute Block - One train in any one section at a time (Except in an
emergency)

Permissive Block - More than one train in a section at a time (Not to be
used for passenger train movements)

Track Circuit Block - Block sections between signals (Automatic or
Controlled)

Intermediate Block - Block section commences at a location remote from the
controlling signalbox, Track circuit block applies between the controlling
signalbox and remote location
ie:
