Re: 422's to Broken Hill



Now I guess you all listen to the noise these things make as you watch them
pass you by?
Guess which Engine I shut down, when we are over-powered. Multi Unit
Controls mean that you can run either loco. If you leave the knife switch
in, or not. Control power comes through the cable. At night you would idle
the one conserving fuel and retain full Electricals. MR air is available via
the air connection from the second loco, and Independent braking via 3 and 4
control pipes.
If  I was conserving fuel for a return trip, I would run one on the down and
the other on the up. The XPT has a similar problem on the Brisbane and
Melbourne runs.
They run an Alternator for HEP, which means that engine consumes more fuel.
So they balance it by running the other alternator on the return.
