Re: Track Possession (was SRA Detonators)



Possessions are preferred due to the high rate of deaths of rail employees
over the last 18 months. It may be completely safe to slow and/or stop
trains on the line you are working on, but adjacent track protection is now
required in certain circumstances. A few fatalities have occurred by workers
simply stepping back off a "dead" track onto a "live" track in the course of
their duties. It is very easy to do and high concentration is required when
walking or working about the track.
Roads are just as dangerous, but a vehicle driver at least has the ability
to swerve around someone who may step out in front of them.
