I keep reading in aus.rail that K.1 has been restored and regauged.

It's still being restored after sometimes long periods of static display at
Beyer-Peacock, at Portmadoc, at York and at Caernarfon... see e.g.
http://www.bangor.ac.uk/ml/whr/k1.htm "at present being rebuilt at Tyseley
Locomotive Works, Birmingham, by works staff and Welsh Highland Railway
Society members".

The track gauge of the North East Dundas Tramway was 2'0". The track gauge
of the Welsh Highland Railway (Caernarfon) is 2'0". I don't understand
where "has been regauged" comes from (unless somebody is quibbling about the
difference between 2'0" and 1'11-1/2").

BTW, if somehow the Ffestiniog Railway Company were prepared to swap K.1 for
4079 "Pendennis Castle", then 4079 re-gauged to 2'0" would look great
between Caernarfon and Dinas; K.1 would look great re-gauged to run
somewhere in Australia (maybe 5'3" with the WCR?).

Finally, for all those people who've never been to Karratha to see 4079 and
never been to Williamsford to see the N.E. Dundas Tramway, there is a dandy
half (?) scale live-steam model of a T.G.R. K class running at a tourist
site near Port Arthur in Tas.
