But Sydney to Melbourne is a completely different case, (XPT) 10 hours
between Sydney and Melbourne is very competitive with coaches and cars,
whereas Melbourne to Mildura(450 km) cars can easily do in less then 6
hours. IIRC road(Sunraysia Hwy?) is about 10km shorter in distance then
rail.

10 hours is fine for an overnight train, but some of the towns prefers
to have Daylight train.
