Re: Wheaton Metro Escalator; 2nd Longest Anywhere?

Re escalator lengths in Melbourne. Checking today at about 1345hrs
(off-peak speeds), the long up-going escalator at Parliament was running at
43.5m/minute, time up was 1min 31.78 secs, giving length of run 66.5m,
down-going 48m/minute, time down 1 minute 22.44secs, therefore length of run
65.9m, taking average of up and down figures gives 66.2m.
The other long escalator on MURL is the pair at the Elizabeth St. end of
Melb. Central, speed up there was 35m/minute, time of journey 1min
22.88secs, giving a length of 48.3m. Down run not checked.
These lengths include the horizontal sections at each end of the
escalators, which are probably about 4 steps, so subtract 4.8m from the
above lengths to give the approximate slant lengths.
Obviously nowhere near the Wheaton one (Where the hell is Wheaton,
anyway?)
In the Southern Hemisphere, how many u.g. railways are there, probably
less than ten, so second out of perhaps ten ain't too terrific! But, I
suppose, better than tenth out of ten.

Regards,

Bill.
